Living a Blessed Life.bmp

This is the first in a series of 4 on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).  This first part has 6 sessions that cover the beatitudes in Matthew 5.  Each session is presented by Lance Witt for about 15-20 minutes leaving plenty of time for discussion and application as a group.  The DVD and participant guides are available from the office.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."  So begins the Semon on the Mount, Jesus' longest sermon in the New Testament. And with these words, Jesus introduces us to a whole new way of living - Inside Out Living!

The sermon on the Mount is a blueprint for building the Christian life. The Sermon covers three chapters of the book of Matthew and includes the Beatitudes, the Lord's Prayer, Jesus' teachings about worry, forgiveness, integrity, loving our enemies, storing up treasures in heaven, and many other topics.

In this volume of our four-part series, Pastor Lance Witt of Saddleback Church will engage your small group in an enriching, verse-by-verse discussion of the Beatitudes, and living as salt and light, as found in Matthew 5:1-16.

Living Beyond Yourself.bmp

This is the second in a series of 4 on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).  This has 6 sessions that cover the beatitudes in Matthew 5.  Each session is presented by Lance Witt for about 15-20 minutes leaving plenty of time for discussion and application as a group.  The DVD and participant guides are available from the office.

Pastor Lance Witt of Saddleback Church continues his in-depth, verse-by-verse discussion of Jesus' most famous sermon. The primary focus of this volume is relationships, and it includes Jesus' teaching on anger management, faithfulness in marriage, being both truthful and trustworthy, and loving our enemies. You will find this study to be challenging, practical, at times controversial, and always quite surprising.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reaches beneath our actions to the attitudes that motivate us. He teaches us how to stop living for ourselves, and how to start living beyond ourselves, and that kind of living is Inside out Living.

Living in the pursuit of God.bmp

This is the third in a series of 4 on the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).  This third part Living in Pursuit of God has 6 sessions comprising six, in-depth, verse-by-verse studies of Jesus’ teaching on the Lord’s Prayer, fasting, materialism, and storing up treasures in Heaven.

Each session is presented by Lance Witt for about 15-20 minutes leaving plenty of time for discussion and application as a group.  The DVD and participant guides are available from the office.

The Invisible War.bmp

This series contains 8 messages on DVD by Chip Ingram from Walk Thru the Bible Ministries.  Christine Johansen attended Marshall’s Life group last year when they did this series and made the following comments.

The teaching given by this man makes the whole 'spiritual warfare' thing make sense for the first time for me; it's not about the excesses of exorcising demons and shouting at people, that we see in certain denominations. Our weapons to defeat Satan are all about living a life of truth with God and man, putting into practice the things God has told me to do, and the need to know scripture and to pray from a perspective of already having won the war through Christ's death and resurrection, instead of praying as a victim hoping to see God change a situation. A subtle difference but very significant. One of Chip's comments is that the evangelical church has adopted the approach that we are in a playground (especially if you belong to the prosperity and 'God wants you to be happy gospel' camp) instead of the mindset of being involved in guerilla warfare, and this series helps refocus us on what is really at stake.(He lists Satan's goals: to terrorise your soul, to render you impotent as a believer, to make you worthless to the cause of Christ, and to make your life one of misery and spiritual defeat.) Anyway, you get the picture that I wish I had come across this teaching decades ago in my Christian life!

Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ.bmp

In 2 Corinthians, the apostle Paul described one of the central problems facing humanity in every age:  people fail to see Christ for who he is.  Even those who have caught a glimpse of him do not see perfectly, says pastor John Piper.  But it is important that we not only learn to see Christ but to delight in him and the truth of the gospel. This DVD explores the meaning and significance of these ideas in a guided group study.  Each of the six, 30 minute presentations will equip you in directing peoples’s understanding so that your group will learn to behold and delight in Jesus more than anything this world has to offer.

Piper is well know for producing quality and inspiring teaching.  There is a companion study guide that goes along with the material.  No-one at Crossroads has used this yet so we will be interested how you find it.

The study guide is available for free right here

 The Blazing Center.bmp

Everything revolves around HIM.  And as the most valuable and glorious person who exists, God is loving, not conceited, when He calls us to worship Him.  His pursuit of glory and our pursuit of joy are not at odds – because God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.  This includes 7 sessions titled Why God is so passionate about His glory, Why our happiness depends on God’s pursuit of His glory, That God actually commands us to pursue our happiness, That sin is when we abandon God and pursue our happiness in lesser things, How our love for God is revealed by our delight in Him, not our labours for him, How joy in God overflows in love to meet the needs of others, How only joy in God can sustain us in times of profound suffering.

This comes with a study guide.  Andrew Brown’s LG has used this and you might like to give him a call for how they found it.

Modern Parables

You can view more information on www.modernparable.com

Modern Parables is an original film-based Bible study curriculum on Jesus’ parables. It uses short films of the parables combined with teaching by pastors and in-depth study materials to create an entirely new learning experience.

Modern Parables seeks to re-create the emotional immediacy that Jesus’ 1st-century audience felt when hearing the parables. It does this by using some of the best parable scholarship and exploring it through creative filmmaking. The gut-level understanding made possible by the films is intended to drive listeners into a deeper understanding of the Bible.

Click here for review on the series:  http://andynaselli.com/modern-parables

Modern Parables accomplishes this by being:

1. Extremely Biblical – The films are not just loosely based on the parables, but very accurately follow the original text. The goal of the films is to re-create the emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact of the original parables. It is the high integrity to the Word of God in all its parts that makes the study so effective.

2. Very Entertaining – All of the films have been produced with strong production values that are immediately apparent to an observer. Furthermore, each of the films has been based on the style of different directors from the past, so each film looks and feels very different from the rest. Because the films are entertaining and based on the Bible, everyone seems to enjoy the learning process.

3. Truly Relevant – By modernizing the parables, they become more accessible to a contemporary audience. People can immediately relate to what the films are saying as well as to what the pastors are teaching. The pastoral application videos show how the parables relate to our daily lives, as well as how we each fit into the broader scope of the Kingdom of God.
