We would like to firstly thank you for your continued support of CY. As a parent/caregiver, you are more than welcome to come along and check out what happens at CY. No-one is forced to stay at the CY programme against their will. However, to make sure everyone is safe we operate a 'sign-out' book. If students leave during the scheduled programme (between 7.45pm and 8.45pm) they are asked to record their name and contact details of a parent/caregiver so we have the option of contacting you and informing you that your child has left CY.
CY ends at 10pm and the Crossroads building is locked. We would appreciate you organising transportation to pick up your child before 10pm so that they do not have to wait around outside on the street.
CY is designed for high-school aged students and teenagers (Year 9-13 students / 13-18 year olds). Crossroads has an alternative programme called ‘Switch’ that caters for Year 7-8 students on Friday nights. Contact the Crossroads office (357 6677) for more information on Switch.
CY has a large number of university students and adults who generously volunteer their time to make sure that CY is a safe and positive environment for all who attend. Several fathers of CY students conduct patrols around the Crossroads carpark to provide security. In our efforts to encourage students to be mature and trustworthy citizens, CY strongly opposes violence or vandalism. Any teenagers caught abusing property or people are immediately removed from CY by our security team and may be referred to the police.
CY operates a 10-seater van that is available for students in desperate need of a ride home after the scheduled Friday night programme. The van leaves Crossroads carpark at approximately 9:20pm every Friday night. Lately this service has been placed under stress due to some students abusing the privilege. We would ask that only those students who have absolutely no other way of safely returning home on a Friday night make use of the van. We would also appreciate a small donation ($2) from the students towards the running costs of the van.
It takes a lot of people and a lot of effort to organize and coordinate CY every week. If you are keen to be involved once or twice per term we would love to hear from you! Opportunities are available in the Security Team (we would love a few more Dad’s to come and hang out with the other Dad’s and patrol the carpark!), in the Kitchen Team (there are lots of cups to put through the dishwasher every night!) and as general Parent Presence.
